Akrot Consult, in partnership with Green Infra Group (GIG), ATC Alliances and Katanga Alumni, is advancing an ambitious project to develop a modern 5,000-bed capacity hostel facility for Katanga Hall at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
With an estimated project value of approximately US$50 million, the development represents a significant private-sector investment in student accommodation and infrastructure at KNUST and is expected to make a meaningful contribution to addressing accommodation needs within the University community.
A Strategic Partnership
The project brings together the combined expertise, networks and resources of Akrot Consult, Green Infra Group, ATC Alliances and Katanga Alumni, creating a strategic partnership focused on delivering a high-quality and technology-enabled student accommodation facility.
Akrot Consult is playing a key role in coordinating and facilitating the project and bringing the various stakeholders together to advance the development.
Green Infra Group (GIG) and ATC Alliances will serve as the project’s technology providers, providing the technical and technological solutions required to support the development of a modern and efficient hostel facility.
The project is supported by EATC, which is providing the funding framework for the development.
The participation of Katanga Alumni further strengthens the partnership, bringing together former students of the University who share a strong interest in contributing to the institution’s growth and infrastructure development.
Successful Engagement with KNUST Management
As part of efforts to advance the project, representatives of Akrot Consult, Green Infra Group, ATC Alliances and KNUST Alumni recently met with the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST and members of the University’s management team.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the project partners to present the proposed development, discuss the implementation framework and engage the University’s leadership on the next steps towards commencement.
The engagement was successfully concluded and represents an important milestone in the advancement of the project, paving the way for the development to move towards the construction phase.
Geospatz Limited to Execute Construction
The physical construction of the 5,000-bed hostel facility will be undertaken by Geospatz Limited, a Ghanaian construction company serving as the project’s local construction partner.
Geospatz Limited will be responsible for the execution of the construction works, working within the agreed technical, engineering and project delivery framework established by the project partners.
The involvement of a Ghanaian construction company also provides an opportunity for significant local participation, skills development and economic activity throughout the implementation of the project.
A Modern Student Accommodation Facility
The proposed 5,000-bed Katanga Hall hostel is envisaged as a modern, technology-enabled student accommodation facility designed to respond to the evolving accommodation needs of KNUST students.
The development is expected to incorporate contemporary infrastructure and technology solutions, reflecting the partners’ commitment to delivering a facility that is efficient, sustainable and fit for the future.
The project also demonstrates the potential of strategic partnerships between the private sector, technology providers, alumni networks and educational institutions to mobilise investment for critical educational infrastructure.
Sod-Cutting Expected in the Coming Months
Following the successful engagement with the Vice-Chancellor and KNUST management, preparations are progressing towards the commencement of construction.
A sod-cutting ceremony is expected to take place in the coming months, marking the formal commencement of the project and ushering in the construction phase.
Akrot Consult and its partners — Green Infra Group (GIG), ATC Alliances, KNUST Alumni, EATC and Geospatz Limited — remain committed to working collaboratively with KNUST and relevant stakeholders to deliver this landmark project.
The Katanga Hall 5,000-bed hostel project is poised to become a significant addition to KNUST’s infrastructure landscape, strengthening student accommodation capacity while demonstrating the impact that strategic partnerships, technology and investment can have on Ghana’s educational infrastructure.
This is more than a hostel project. It is a partnership investing in infrastructure, innovation, education and the future of KNUST.
